Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters is by far one of my favorite stores. The clothes they have are really interesting and different than what most stores are selling these days. the clothing has a nice vintage look to it and seems to be pretty well made. The only problem I have with it is that it's sort of expensive. On my budget I can't really spend 60 $ on every dress I want. But there is hope! they do have, in most of their stores, a giant sale room. It is sort of a mess, but searching through it is half the fun. In that room I've gotten huge discounts on some of my favorite dresses, skirts, and shirts. Some pictures of their clothes that I'm currently waiting to go on sale are below. Besides their great clothes they sell these really cool things that no one really needs but as soon as you see them you want them. Like a 3D pet book, fake mustaches, and a guitar shaped spatula. I myself have gotten some mustache band-aids and a sweet art book. They also have pretty good taste in music, if you go to http://lstn.urbanoutfitters.com/ there are a ton of free downloads. You sort of have to pick out the good ones, but there are some real scores hidden in those playlists. Sort of like the sale room. I've gotten some of my favorite songs of of their free download-able playlists. Also another plus about the store, some really cool people work there. One time I went and the two guys working behind the counter we absolutely hilarious. The cool atmosphere of the place adds to the reasons why i love it there.

Vintage Shopping

I love to shop at vintage stores. You can get much more interesting and unique clothing at them than any of the stores at the mall. One of my absolute favorite stores is the Cambridge Garment District in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They sell vintage clothes from several different decades on the top floor which is pretty nice but my favorite part is downstairs. There is a classroom-sized room that's floor is covered in clothes. You are given a bag and you can dig through the pile and pick out all the things you want. After you're done, you weigh the bag and pay $1.50 a pound unless its a Friday, then only $1.00 a pound. This amazingly awesome and cheap way of shopping is fun and extremely entertaining because there are a lot of ridiculous clothes mixed in with only a few real scores. You can't really go in looking for anything but you always stumble upon a few great things. It's also a perfect place to shop for a costume.

I Took Cutie For a Ride In My Death Cab

Gym Class Heroes is an alternative hip-hop band that most people probably only know for their single "Cupid's Choke-hold". I would definitely suggest that everybody listen to their earlier songs on the album The Paper Cut Chronicles. Although some of the songs are what people are familiar with, almost meaningless but still super catchy hip-hop music, like "Make Out Club" or "Taxi Driver" there are also some meaningful songs on the album. "Faces In The Hall" is the story about a boy named Alberto who was gay and was killed by the ignorant people at the party he when too. This song is really sad but I like the message that it sends with lyrics like:
And night he would cry and cry and ask "God why?"
Like "God, why'd I have to be born this way?"
God would reply, "Son, you've gotta show 'em you're more than gay.

Or "To Bob Ross With Love" a song that is a tribute to art and music and the connection between them.
So open your eyes and listen Combine your ears with vision Or do it cause you love it Or for cash that's your decision
I do like the songs on GCH's more recent albums As Cruel As School Children and The Quilt, but I find their old songs to be more meaningful and not as mainstreamed. But of course they do address this issue on what happens to be one of my favorite songs on The Quilt. The song is called "Don't Tell Me It's Over", and it's basically telling everybody that is complaining that they sold out to keep talking about them but what they're saying isn't even close to true.
Tell them I sold out, say I did it for the fame And how I buy magazines for the sake of seeing my name
And
Let them keep blogging trash im gonna take the garbage out
Are the lyrics from the song.
Gym Class heroes is one of my favorite bands of the moment. And I like both of the types of music they sing, the joke songs and the serious ones. Oh yeah, it helps that the lead singer Travis McCoy (Pictured above) is extremely awesome.

Day 2

Well I had a big post. I accidentally lost the whole thing. so this will be sort of short. And I have no idea why the beginning of this is underlined. I'm new to this, sorry.

I'm doing this blog for a journalism class. It's going to focused mainly on fashion and music. As you probably could have figured out by the tittle.

So here's a bit of the big post that ran away.

I absolutely love vintage clothing. My favorite era of fashion is definitely the 50s.
The clothing of the time is so classic. The clothes the actors wear in Mad Men is so great.
I'm going to try to put a picture right here, of the cast, but last time it didn't work so no promises. If I could wear clothes like this every day, I would, but it might be a bit too dressy...
